In August of 2007 The Beds were invited to trek to
L.A. to make a music video under the direction of
University of Southern California School of Cinematic
Arts students Lisa Curry and Yu Gu. Lisa wrote the
script to go along with the band’s recently
re-recorded original tune “Need To Dream”,
and arranged for stunning locations to film throughout
LA. A highlight of the trip was an outing to the Sony
Prop warehouse where labels indicating that this table
was reserved for “House” and that for
“The OC” sat alongside the band’s
own reserved props (notably, the bed seen in the closing
warehouse scene).
The band, Galen Curry on vocals,
Woody Jiang on guitar, Andy Moerschell on bass and
John Whalen on drums, relied on the kindness and hospitality
of Potsdam native Phil Hurley and his band Stonehoney
for most of the instruments the band plays in the
video, and for introducing them to the musical community
in L.A.. L.A. professional actress Melanie Wilson
starred as a desperate dream addict stealing her fixes
from the unsuspecting musicians until freed from her
addiction by the band’s musical intervention.
