ENJOY
A CRANE CONCERT OF NEW MUSIC FOR GUITAR AND SAX
Saxophonist Christopher Creviston and guitarist Oren
Fader will present a recital of exciting new music for
saxophone and guitar at the Helen M. Hosmer Concert
Hall Tuesday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m.
The program will include premieres of works composed
for Creviston and Fader by Whitney Ashe, David Claman,
Eric J. Schwartz, Gal Ziv and Crane composer Gregory
Wanamaker, as well as a new arrangement by Michael Djupstrom.
Fader, a member of the faculty at the Manhattan School
of Music, has performed in London, Tokyo, Munich, Amsterdam,
Montreal, Maui, Russia, Mexico and throughout the United
States. His concerto performances include the Villa-Lobos
Guitar Concerto with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra,
the Concierto de Aranjuez with the Brooklyn Conservatory
Orchestra and the Vivaldi D major with the Manchester
Music Festival Chamber Players in Vermont.
Fader has performed hundreds of concerts with a wide
range of classical and new music groups, including the
Met Chamber Ensemble, New York City Opera, New York
Philharmonic, New York City Ballet, Mark Morris Dance
Group, New World Symphony, Absolute Ensemble, Chamber
Music Society of Lincoln Center, American Composers'
Orchestra, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, Music from Japan,
New Amsterdam Singers, New York Festival of Song, Da
Capo Chamber Players, North Country Chamber Players,
Poetica Musica and Speculum Musicae. Festival performances
include Aspen, Tanglewood, Bach Oregon Festival, Deer
Valley Festival (Utah) and Morelia, Mexico.
Fader received his undergraduate degree from SUNY
Purchase and his Master of Music degree in performance
from Florida State University.
Creviston, presently a member of The Crane School
of Music faculty, has played in many esteemed venues
such as Carnegie Hall with the Detroit Symphony and
Prince’s birthday party at Paisley Park. He has
also appeared live on BET’s “BET on Jazz.”
He has also “gigged” the Apollo Theatre
in Harlem.
Creviston is internationally known as a player and
teacher. He was previously on staff at the Greenwich
House Music School in New York City. He has also held
faculty positions at the University of Windsor (Canada)
and at the University of Michigan.
Creviston has appeared at clinics and conventions
beginning as an undergraduate student when he was featured
performer and clinician at the 1989 Dana Saxophone Symposium
(Youngstown State University) and most recently in January
of 2007, appearing as featured guest artist at the NASA
Region VIII Conference (Penn State University).
Creviston was selected as winner of the North American
Saxophone Alliance’s Classical Competition, a
finalist in the New York Concert Artist’s Guild,
and has won numerous other accolades. He has appeared
as featured soloist with many orchestras and bands,
including his concerto debut performing Ibert’s
“Concertino da Camera” at the Michigan Youth
Arts Festival, and his professional concerto debut playing
Villa-Lobos’ “Fantasia” with the National
Symphony Orchestra.
