CANADIAN
BRASS TO SHARE THEIR MUSIC AT SUNY POTSDAM
Community Performance Series will welcome the virtuosi
of Canadian Brass on Saturday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m.
in SUNY Potsdam’s Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall.
The Potsdam Brass Quintet will celebrate their 40th
anniversary by performing a number with Canadian Brass.
In addition, Dr. Art Frackenpohl, SUNY Potsdam professor
emeritus, will give a pre-concert talk at 6:30 p.m.
in Hosmer Hall.
Canadian Brass is noted as an international, classical
brass quintet that just celebrated their 35th season
together. They are defined as exceptional Baroque players;
however, their success has allowed them to delve into
different musical genres such as jazz, contemporary
concert music and popular songs. Canadian Brass has
taken the meaning of a “brass ensemble”
to a new level and their witty stage presence has allowed
them to gain a large, international following.
All of the music performed by Canadian Brass is transcribed
or arranged by them or commissioned for them. They are
an eclectic group that can cater to any concert situation:
providing an audience with either a beautiful classical
concert or playing music alongside lively dialogue and
theatrics.
They have played in a range of venues as well as appearing
on television in “The Tonight Show,” “Today”
and “Entertainment Tonight.” They have also
appeared as guest artists on “Evening at Pops
with John Williams,” “Beverly Sills’
Music around the World,” and numerous PBS specials.
