Godsmack returns with their seventh studio album When Legend Rise. Twenty years have passed since The Band's debut in 1998. The Massachusetts legends remains relevant with over twenty million album sales to their credit. The lineup of Sully Erna – Vocals and front man extordinaire, Guitarist Tony Rombola, Bassist Robbie Merrill and Drummer Shannon Larkin have been consistent throughout the years, providing the masses with powerful high-quality rock. The alternative post grunge band has been awarded several Grammy nominations for Best Hard Rock Performance and Best Rock Instrumental. Godsmack also have scored three number one albums on Billboards Top 200 – Faceless. IV and the Oracle, along with 23 Top Ten Radio Hits.

It's been four years since the critically acclaimed 1000hp debuted, but as you will discover When Legends Rise is well worth the wait. It is a solid follow-up that evolves with more depth, creating a mature sound, but still maintaining the power of Godsmack. The tuned down, riff heavy music, with its sinister vocals and signature guitars, commands you to appreciate the longevity of this band.

The title track When Legends Rise, beckons you with Larkin's tribal drum beat, creating a rhythmic fury. Merrills solid bass is followed by Rombola's tightly wound riffs, and of course Sully Erna distinctive vocals. Godsmack debuts its first ballad with Under your Scars, a haunting melody, featuring piano, violin and a searing lead guitar. Its sure to be an anthemic feature on future live sets. The rest of the album rocks. It difficult to pick a favorite on When Legends Rise. The music just keeps getting better with every selection. Tracks 7-11 are exceptional, but there's not a song that I do not like. If you're a Godsmack fan you won't be disappointed.

If you haven't checked out the video for Bulletproof, go to the bands website (godsmack.com), it is not only a great song, but the boys in The Band have created a very entertaining video. They definitely don't mind making fun of themselves while entertaining us.

Godsmack kick off their North American Tour on April 27th in Jacksonville, Florida. They will be performing in Syracuse with Shinedown and Red Sun Rising at the Lakeview Amphitheater on Wednesday, August 29th. I have photographed Godsmack several times, they always put on a great show !

Check out the new Godsmack – When Legends Rise on Spotify. As with all my reviews - If you like, what I like, you will either end up buying the cd or streaming The Band's latest project.
