Brick ride to Sturgis

Summer is officially here and along with it people begin traveling to exciting destinations. The same is true for Motorcycle Enthusiasts around the globe, and especially so in North America – in fact Americans may have even invented the concept for today's Motorcycle Rally.

Originally known as "Gypsy Tours" back in 1915, today the term has been replaced by "Motorcycle Rally". The definition of a tour/rally is Motorcycle Enthusiasts experiencing freedom by traveling long distances to converge on a favorite destination for entertainment, motorcycle contests and stunt performances, and group rides to local attractions. The goals of motorcycle rallies are simple: First is to promote friendship among riders of all makes of motorcycles and give them a great time to talk about. The second is to give the public a demonstration of the practicality of motorcycle transportation and share the joy of riding.

Our nation's oldest running motorcycle rally happens in Laconia, New Hampshire. Other notable rallies include Daytona Beach Bike Week, Myrtle Beach Bike Week, Hollister Freedom Rally, Americade, the Laughlin River Run, local to Northern New York is the Thousand Islands River Run in Alexandria Bay, and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of Sturgis and both Harley-Davidson® and the City of Sturgis, S.D., are celebrating in a big way. The company and city officials have made Harley-Davidson® the official motorcycle of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for the next 75 years.

As part of that agreement, Harley® ripped bricks from their world headquarters building on Juneau Avenue in Milwaukee, and sent them (by motorcycle of course!) to be part of a permanent plaza on Main Street in Sturgis. "Riding is a passion passed down through generations," said Matt Levatich, president and CEO at Harley-Davidson®, "so it's important we celebrate the legacy and history....while helping creating new memories."

Are you interested in learning more about what it's like to ride a Harley®?? Or perhaps you already know and just need a new ride to the rally?? Either way you're more than welcome to visit us at F.X. Caprara Harley-Davidson®!! We are always happy to share our motorcycling experiences, give you demonstrations, and share our passion for living life on two wheels.
