The Norwood Village Green 2015 Concert Series

The Norwood Village Green Concert Series has programmed its 2015 season, the 42nd annual season of the venerable Northern New York tradition.

With a rich history of presenting 713 concerts to an audience in excess of 568,750, the series is noted for its diverse and eclectic performances. It has presented performers from every continent, and has included 13 Grammy award winners, 14 Juno award recipients, 2 National arts recipients, 2 National Heritage Award winners, and many other winners in varied genres. In 2015 it will present an American Prize in Voice recipient, a SUNY Potsdam Rising Star recipient, a TAUNY Evergreen Award recipient, and a mix of some of the finest touring musicians and outstanding local and regional performers. The width and breadth of these award winners continues to grow, as the creative process is valued in the programming. Most of the music, dance, storytelling and other arts genres are creations of the featured performer.

Other highlighted performance will be given by one of the finest Jazz saxophonists of our time, as well as a pop vocalist for the ages, a Japanese choreographer and his dance troupe, a Native American/Appalachian/Black/Roots performer and her band, an 11 person Salsa Dura band from Spanish Harlem and the Bronx, a legendary singer/songwriter, swamp pop and creole music from the Mississippi Valley, a much-awarded folk duo, more than 100 local musicians, either performing their own creations or accompanying some of the touring artists, and the annual SLCMEA Festival with 11 performing groups from 7 school districts.

As always the Norwood Village Green Concert Series comes with a price in performance fees and the upgrading of its lighting system. There are a myriad of other expense too, but the major expense is performers fees. It is labor intensive in that regard, as it should be for a performance series.

For the series this price for performers fees for 2015 will be $34,900 It will be money well spent and will further enhance our area's "sense of place" and community. It will do it through the arts on the most basic level - the arts in and of the community.

The presentation of the stellar lineup of performers continues the series' efforts to provide access to artistic excellence for the public in a free, unique, inclusive and eclectic family setting. The series is endowed with a treasured audience base and has justly had a history of good and sustaining financial support over the years. It is hoped that this support will be continuing. See the last paragraph below.

The Series is supported in part by the New York State Council on the arts, a state agency, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. It is also supported by public moneys from the Town of Potsdam and the Village of Norwood. Its primary support is from many organizations, foundations, businesses and individuals. The acoustic concerts are supported by The Sweetgrass Foundation. The appearance of Steve Wilson is supported by National Grid.

The series continues to take donations by check. They can be mailed to: Norwood Village Green Concert Series, 3 Bicknell Street, Norwood, NY 13668. All contributions are tax deductible.
