Trillium – Center for Yoga & Health

Although yoga is in the name, Trillium – Center for Yoga & Health in Potsdam, NY space has much more to offer than regularly scheduled yoga classes. With a vision to create a space that is truly community and health driven, the owners Jean Benvenuto, Shannon Miller and Terry de la Vega, have focused their efforts on opening a studio that is warm and inviting. The moment you walk in the relaxation begins. The space is bright and well decorated with bamboo plants and a forgiving cork floor. There are panels that separate the entrance from the practice space, and plenty of storage for shoes and personal belongings. A restroom and changing areas are also available to guests. With a setting so conducive to yoga, it's hard to believe that all of this was put together just this past summer- most of the renovations, painting and work done by the three owners and their families. "It was just time to do this," says Shannon on opening a yoga studio to Potsdam.

The idea for the yoga and health center began four years ago when Terry and Shannon started having conversations and lunch meetings about potentially opening a space in Potsdam. Their idea was met with enthusiasm from Jean, who spoke about Potsdam's need for a yoga studio, "Having talked to people in the community, it made sense to have a space for yoga that was more local." Since all three of the owners have taught yoga elsewhere, it also made sense for them to combine their experiences in order to create the new studio. Their class offerings are a reflection of this- from Beginner's Yoga to Meditation to Yoga Dance- there really is something for everybody.

The hardest part of stating a yoga practice is just showing up on the mat. And you won't find a better place to begin in Potsdam. Even if you are new to yoga, this studio reflects the openness and warmth of its owners, making you will feel welcomed at Trillium. A Potsdam resident, Micaela Holland, described the inaugural class, August 17, as "Perfectly inviting. It was better than I expected; it felt like I was really taking care of myself, taking care of my soul."

"We're a yoga studio definitely. But our intention is to be more of a wellness center," says Shannon.

In addition to yoga classes, the studio will be offering massage therapy, reiki and counseling services. "And if we don't have something you need and are looking for, we'll help you find it. Our studio is really about community."
