Chris Stapleton

We are approaching the Christmas season when a lot of country acts take time off from the road to spend with their families and enjoy the season themselves; others though stay out on the road to entertain with their mini "Christmas Tours" which are always a pleasure to attend.

One of the artists taking some time from touring is Mickey Guyton; she's been touring with Brad Paisley on his Crushin' It Tour. She's looking forward like many of us to spending the holiday with her family. "For Christmas we go to my parents' house and we wake up early in the morning and drink some orange juice and then open presents," she adds.

Be looking for a late Christmas gift from the singer - she has new music coming in early 2016!

Other artists with music coming out in the New Year include Keith Urban Ripcord, Jake Owen along with country icons Hank Williams Jr. and Loretta Lynn. Both of whom haven't put out albums in a number of years. Other artists planning to release new music in 2016 include The Band Perry, the Brothers Osborne, Florida-Georgia Line, Scotty McCreery, Granger Smith, Joe Nichols & Trace Adkins.

If you watched or even heard about the CMA's you know about the surprising triple win for Chris Stapleton with New Artist, Male Vocalist and Album of the Year. At a recent media event he was asked what's next for him after the huge victory, and even he wasn't sure.

"I've been in the music business a while, but I've never done anything like this. It's been a bit overwhelming, but I'm going to do my best to handle it with some degree of grace. I'm gonna keep making music that hopefully I think is good, and whatever comes out of that, that will be fine with me."

Of course Stapleton does plan to keep doing what it is that he does and loves to do; making music as well as continuing to tour. He has an upcoming tour that will take him to Europe that he's really looking forward to.

So does his win mean there will be a shift in country music on the radio? Away from the bro-country/pop sound to a more traditional country sound? Prior to his wins at the CMA a lot of country music fans really weren't familiar with his music as he didn't receive a great amount of radio support. There always has been a certain amount of pop influence in country music dating back to the 1970's but it seems lately it's overtaken the traditional country sound as the main staple on Music Row. I'd like to think Stapleton's wins would make more room for artists like him, Jamey Johnson and those with that type of sound back on the airwaves. Country music has always had room for different artists with different influences so hopefully the pendulum swings back to where country radio along with Music Row welcomes more of this type of artist back into the fold with open arms and Chris Stapleton can lead the charge,

I'd like to wish all of you and your families a very Merry Christmas from my family. Enjoy the time of year when there is such joy and happiness being spread and do your best to be part of it and spread a little yourself!
