JCC to offer Training for Responsible Alcohol Service and Sale

The Continuing Education Division at Jefferson Community College (JCC) will offer nationally recognized program, Training for Intervention ProcedureS (TIPS), of interest to service industry employees who sell and serve alcohol in a licensed establishment. Taught by Julie Hosbach, TIPS certified trainer and JCC winery management and marketing program coordinator and instructor, TIPS is a skills based program that is recognized nationally with certified professionals in 50 states. TIPS will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at JCC on Wednesday, November 18 and Tuesday, December 15.

Topics covered in the TIPS program include how to avoid selling alcohol to minors and how to prevent underage drinking, how to recognize potential alcohol related situations and effective ways to intervene. The training will conclude with students taking the national certification exam and upon successful completion, become certified. Valid for three years, TIPS certification will boost employee confidence and promote responsible service of alcohol, reduce business liabilities for alcohol violations and may result in a reduction of insurance premiums.
