Stugill Simson

I hope everyone is enjoying their spring so far! One thing I'm excited about is the new album from STURGILL SIMPSON. After announcing earlier in the year that his fans were going to need to wait on his newest project, A Sailor's Guide to Earth, even though he'd already completed it. As it ended up, that wait wasn't very long at all. The new album is set to drop in the middle of this month on the 15th. The record features nine songs, including a version of Nirvana's "In Bloom".

I've been a fan of Sturgill since I first caught him on the Late Show with David Letterman and his performance just blew me away. That was from his Metamodern [Sounds in Country Music] which is another album you should give a listen to of you haven't yet. I'll definitely be grabbing a copy of Sturgill's new album and hope you check it out when it hits stores.

So Maren Morris, who's seen her debut single "My Church" burn up the country radio charts now has a release date for her debut EP as well. It's going to be titled Hero and will be available June 3rd. If her first song is any indication I'm expecting some great things from this newcomer!

So after a hiatus the American Country Countdown Awards are returning and will air Sunday, May 1 on FOX, live from the Forum in Inglewood, CA. Country music hit makers Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line and Thomas Rhett are set to perform for the show. The two-hour event is the going to be the first country music awards show to air live from Los Angeles in more than 10 years, so they'll probably make it a pretty big deal. The awards show will honor the year's best country music with awards, special performances, special moments and other additional surprises. The haven't yet announced this year's host, additional performers and award finalists but they should be coming over the next few weeks.

It was definitely sad to hear about Don Williams retiring from country music. The "Gentle Giant" gave us so much great music to enjoy and was touring up until recently when he found out he needed hip replacement surgery. I sure wish him the best in his recovery from the surgery and in his well-deserved retirement. Thanks for all the music Don, I'll make sure to keep my watch set on "Tulsa Time"
