It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, thanks in part to St. John's Conservatory Theater's annual musical comedy MR. SCROOGE, opening at the OFA Auditorium in Ogdensburg, NY, this December.

Based on Charles Dickens' classic short story A Christmas Carol, this hilarious family-friendly musical (I watch them every year) hits the stage Friday and Saturday evenings December 15 and 16 at 7 PM, with matinees December 16 and 17 at 2 PM.

North Country Talent Takes Center Stage

There is a great deal of theatrical talent in and around our northern frontier, and MR. SCROOGE graciously showcases their abundant gifts. Performers hailing from all over the North Country including Ogdensburg, Gouverneur, Heuvelton, Morristown, Lisbon, and Waddington grace the stage.

MR. SCROOGE stars veteran stage actor R. O'Donnell as Mr. Ebenezer Scrooge, Stephen Chambers as Jacob Marley's Ghost, Gerard Powers as Scrooge's nephew Fred, Angela Conzone Dwyer as Thelma Plum (The Ghost of Been There Done That), and Matilda Pift (The Ghost of Christmas Presents), Hailey Weber as Scrooge's young love interest Belle, Cole Siebels as Young Scrooge, Brandon Bogart as Fezziwig, and Lizzy Peo as Mrs. Fezziwig.

The street urchins star Cadence Payne as Nipper, Jillian Lebel as Cager, Gabi Ott as Birdie, Myah Myers as Scraps, Grant Brunet as Rusty, Maddison Lebel as Hattie, and Meghan Gardner as Dustbin.

The Cratchit Family stars Christopher Dwyer as Bob, Lizzy Peo as Emily, Madison Miller as Bella, Ava Rutherford as Martha, and Maddison Cameron as Tiny Tina. Other roles include Mia Labella as Florence Sparkles, Calea Lebel as Matilda Sparkles, Delia Payne as Lizzy Sparkles, Rozalyn Dwyer as Dandelion Sparkles, and Ryan Woodard as Nocal Head the Mourner.

Maddison Cameron is from Heuvelton, Richard O'Donnell, Angela, Christopher, and Rozalyn Dwyer, Stephen Cambers, Gabriella Ott, Madison Miller, Delia and Cadence Payne, Hailey Weber, Gerard Powers, Lizzy Peo, Ryan Woodard, Mia Labelle are from Ogdensburg, Grant Brunet is from Morristown, Ava Rutherford is from Waddington, and Calea and Maddison LaBel are from Lisbon.

An Annual Holiday Tradition

MR. SCROOGE, about a miserly old man who "bah humbugs" Christmas and all those who celebrate it, is mounted for its fourth year in a row. An annual holiday tradition, MR. SCROOGE, with newly added music and other iconic characters, is a must-see annual celebration of laughter, song, and dance.

Originally produced under the title A Christmas Carol at the St. John's Parish Hall Theater for the past three years, MR. SCROOGE makes its debut at the multi-million-dollar all-digital George Hall Theater at Ogdensburg Free Academy in Ogdensburg, NY. With the added lights, fly system, and sound capabilities, the production boasts a real "Broadway" feel. According to their press release, the upgraded theatrical experience includes comfortable seating, improved visibility, and a delicious variety of concessions.

Award-winning Broadway Writer and Composer

MR. SCROOGE features another original book, music and lyrics by award-winning playwright and composer Richard O'Donnell under his nom de plume B. R. Kreep.

"I write under a different name for adaptations of classic literature," explains playwright and composer O'Donnell, "And I reserve my actual name for original works such as this year's ORCHARD OF HIDE & SEEK."

On Broadway, O'Donnell co-wrote Radio City Music Hall's MANHATTAN SHOWBOAT, which received critical and public acclaim. He co-wrote the award-winning off-Broadway musical comedy ONE & ONE, which received three American Society of Composer Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) awards. As a choreographer, O'Donnell staged Dick Hyman's JOAN AND THE DEVIL, as well as Walter/McDowell's RAPUNZEL AND THE DRAGONS at the famed Greenwich Village institutions 13th Street Repertory Company, and Actors' Playhouse, respectively. O'Donnell studied Musical Theater with Tony award-winning director/choreographers Tommy Tune, Michael Bennett, and Ron Field in New York City. In Chicago, he co-founded the professional theater company New Age Vaudeville where he wrote two of its biggest cult hits, AN EVENING WITH ELMORE & GWENDOLYN PUTTS, and THE TV DINNER HOUR (staring Second City founder Del Close).

An Original North Country Theater Company

St. John's Conservatory Theater offers the Ogdensburg community three seasonal (Winter, Summer, and Fall) all-original musicals. SJCT productions are fully staged, costumed, and orchestrated, and include a book (story and dialogue), music and lyrics. Nowhere else in the North Country is there a professional regional theater company that produces all-original in-house musicals.

MR. SCROOGE principal creative staff includes Producing Artistic Director Mr. O'Donnell, Musical Director and Choreographer Angela Conzone Dwyer, Digital Orchestrator and Vocal Arranger OFA graduate Ryan C. McNally, Scenic and Prop Designer Stephen Chambers, Costume and Makeup Designer Karen Fischbeck, Senior Costumer Heron Hetzler, Technical Director and Production Coordinator Christopher Dwyer, Sound Designer Richard Patton, Lighting Designer Barry Pratt, Stage Manager Ashley Toppin, and Props Master Tonya Ott. Collectively they have over five decades of professional theatrical and academic experience including regional, stock, bus and truck, off-off-Broadway, off-Broadway, and Broadway stages.
