It's hard to imagine Ogdensburg without the St. John's Conservatory Theater's yearly innovative musical comedies. Utilizing talent from all over the North Country, this local regional theater offers something for everyone.

Whether you're a die-hard theater fan or someone being dragged kicking and screaming, I've personally not heard of one objection after having experienced their talents firsthand. So, it is with great pride and certainty that I announce their next production.

The Golden Age of Radio Revisited

Their 2018 season opens with one of their very popular reviews The New Variety Radio Show, which is scheduled to open April 5-8, at the OFA George Hall Auditorium, Ogdensburg, NY.

A tribute to the golden age of radio, this musical comedy spectacular is hosted by a comedian à la Jimmy Durante named Waldo Fern played by R. O'Donnell, and his sidekick Mr. Wilson played by Brandon Bogart.

He's joined in the WKNY studio by the St. Lawrence Darlings (think Mouseketeers), which perform sketches, song and dance accompanied by The Oswegatchie Orchestra.

The St. Lawrence Darlings are played by Dee Bellinger, Peyton Brown, Maddison Cameron, Evelyn Davis, Jillian LeBel, Macy Murdock, Myah Myers, Gabriella Ott, Cadence Payne, Delia Payne, Gerard Powers, Logan Carr, Hailee Jackson, Christopher Rodriguez, and Hailey Weber.

The cast also features Angela Conzone Dwyer as Peggy Page, Stephen Chambers as Ernie Rooster, Shelly Murdock as Ella Starr, and Ryan C.

McNally as Max Windell and his wandering sax.

According to their press release, The New Variety Radio Show boasts lavish production numbers of popular hits of the 20's, 30's, and 40s.

Toe-tapping hits to gut-busting jokes to tap-dancing thrills collide with a fast-paced radio program reminiscent of the famous radio variety shows of the 1940s.

An Original North Country Theater Company

An original North Country theater company, St. John's Conservatory Theater offers the Ogdensburg community four seasonal (Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter) all-original musicals. SJCT productions are fully staged, costumed, and orchestrated, and include a book (story and dialogue), music and lyrics. Nowhere else in the North Country is there a professional regional theater company that produces all-original in-house musicals.

R. O'Donnell is Waldo Fern on THE NEW VARIETY RADIO SHOW

St. John's Conservatory Theater principal creative staff includes Producing Artistic Director Mr. O'Donnell, Musical Director and Choreographer Angela Conzone Dwyer, Digital Orchestrator and Vocal Arranger OFA graduate Ryan C. McNally, Scenic and Prop Designer Stephen Chambers, Costume and Makeup Designer Karen Fischbeck, Senior Costumer Heron Hetzler, Technical Director and Production Coordinator Christopher Dwyer, Sound Designer Richard Patton, Lighting Designer Barry Pratt, Production Stage Manager Ashley Toppin, and Props Master Tonya Ott. Collectively they have over five decades of professional theatrical and academic experience including regional, stock, bus and truck, off-off-Broadway, off-Broadway, and Broadway stages.
