The Chippewa Bay Community Club Announces Summer 2018 Events Lineup

The Chippewa Bay Community Club's successful Concert Series will move to Thursday Evenings from 6:30-8:30 PM in the Club's backyard at 1172 CR 6 in Chippewa Bay and will feature some amazing groups during the month of July. concerts are free and open to the public, just bring a lawn chair. The schedule includes: July 5- "Northbound" from Canton, NY will move the audience with an eclectic mix of rock and the oldies. July 12- "Double Barrel Blues Band" from Syracuse, NY will entertain the crowd with amazing sounds of rocking Blues. July 19- "Waydown Wailers" from Canton, NY will perform many of their original songs featuring the sounds of Original Roots Rock, infused with Blues Rock, Country and Electric Americana. July 26- "Fred & the Eds" from watertown, NY will close the concert series and get the crowd moving with the power sounds they are famous for. This summer's concert funding is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the arts, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature administered by the St. Lawrence County arts Council."

In August, a Thursday Evening Lecture Series will provide audiences with an eclectic and interesting series of topics that will start at 7 PM at the Community Club and are free to the public. The schedule features: August 2- "Piloting on the Seaway: 3 Locks, 16 Ports, 41 Years", an informative presentation by St. Lawrence Seaway Ship Pilot Captain Don Metzger. August 12- "Frederic Remington (The Artist) at Chippewa Bay", Laura Foster, Curator of Remington Museum, will describe Remington's intriguing summers at his Chippewa island. August 19- "Bats: Their Importance to Us and the Threats They Face", Dr. Brian Hickey of the River Institute, Cornwall, Ontario will share information about these amazing creatures. August 26- "Bugs in Your HAM: Insects Threatening Hemlock, Ash and Maple Trees. Paul Hetzler from SLC Cooperative Extension leaves the audience with some intriguing information about these local threats.

MahJong enthusiasts are invited to play this intriguing game every Monday from June 18-September 10 from 10 am-12 noon. Participation is free and and instruction is available for those who wish to learn the game. For more info or to register: chippewacommunityclub@yahoo.com.

Thursday Walk-in Yoga returns and runs from June 21-September 6 with two classes (beginners and intermediate) available. For more info: chippewacommunityclub@yahoo.com.

On Saturday, June 30, the Ogdensburg United States Coast Guard Auxiliary will present "Suddenly In-Command" Boating Safety Course from 9-11am at the Community Club.The $15 class fee includes $5 certificate toward an "About Boating Safely" course. Local Stained Glass Artist Scott Ouderkirk is the instructor for "Faux Stained Glass Class for Kids & Parents" on Saturday, July 14, . Materials will be provided for 9:30am-12 Noon event that is free and open to the public. To register or for more info email: chippewacommunityclub@yahoo.com.

On Saturday, July 28th, the Community Club is partnering with Nature Up North to host a first-time event, a "Wild Edible Plant Walk on Chippewa Bay Preserve Trail". This intriguing trek starting at the "Trail" at the end of New Road in Chippewa Bay will run from 10 am-12 Noon and is free to the public. On Saturday, August 11, the Community Club will host a "Canvas and Coffee Fundraiser" from 9:30am-12 Noon. Local artist, Patty VanPatten, will show participants how easy it is to paint an "Amazing River Scene" The event is open to the public and the suggested donation is $25 with proceeds going to the Club's building maintenance fund.
