Attention Attention is Shinedown's sixth studio album. Their latest release is considered a loose concept album that depicts an individual overcoming negativity and its related problems to be reborn as a new person. Attention Attention is a musical journey that delivers a cinematic and poignant body of work that has a finger on the pulse of the current climate of the world. It is not a political statement but a reflection on how many of us feel about navigating through life.

The Band was formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 2001 by Brent Smith, vocalist and lead lyricist. Smith recruited original member and drummer Barry Kerch. Zack Meyers on guitar and bassist Eric Bass were added in 2008 forming the current lineup. The four have been together since, creating one of the premier acts in main stream rock today. Shinedown have sold more than ten million albums worldwide. They have earned twelve number one singles on the Billboard charts, only second to Van Halen and Three Days Grace with thirteen a piece. Their mixture of hard rock with infectious pop sensibilities have propelled them to one of the most successful musical groups in the last ten years.

Attention Attention is the first in Shinedown's catalog to be produced and mixed by bassist Eric Bass. It entered number one on Billboards Top Rock Albums, Top Hard Rock Albums and Top Alternative Albums. The album is expertly crafted with a heavier approach than their last release, 2015's Threat to Survival. The Band aggressive rock tendencies led by guitarist Zack Meyers, along with the fuel injected rhythm section of Barry Kerch and Eric Bass, topped off with Brent Smith's passionate vocal delivery provides an engaging ride. The progressive song structure by the prolific writing skills of Smith along with Eric Bass provide a message of empowerment, perseverance and inspiration. This album is comprised of dynamic songs and rocking anthems. It is filled with sharp edges and hard turns with The Band razor sharp as ever. My favorite songs are Monsters, Evolve, and Human Radio. Get Up is inspiring, as is the uplifting closer Brilliant.

Brent Smith is quoted as stating about the concept of Attention Attention

"At the beginning of the record, you can feel this intensity and these bold statements that are being made, but as the record progresses, you hear the individual and the record start to shift, and they start to get their confidence back, and they start to understand what's going on, because they're having to face emotions that they've never really faced before. They have to accept the fact that it's not always going to be great. It's not always going to be exactly the way you want it."

The Rock and Roll masses will continue to gravitate towards the light that Shinedown showers down on all of us with songs that are personal, real and right to the heart.

Shinedown and Godsmack are scheduled to perform together at the St. Joes Health Amphitheater at Lakeview in Syracuse on August 29th. I have photographed this band several times. The first being at the Lost Horizon in Syracuse, several K-Rock-a-thons at Weedsport and also on The Carnival of Madness Tour. Each time The Band performed at a high level, but what surprised me the most was each time they were better than the time before. Don't miss out - Go see this band !!

Check out the new Shinedown – Attention Attention on Spotify. As with all my reviews - If you like, what I like, you will either end up buying the cd or streaming The Band's latest project.
